It is important to evaluate the vital cycle of the fleas to be effective in the control of their populations.
The most important characteristic of the vital cycle of those insects is that most of the intermediate apprenticeships can be found in the atmosphere of the host.
For instance, the larvas, although susceptible to drying, they stand back of the light and they crawl down of rugs and other safe areas, as below of pieces of furniture. The pupas weave a cocoon and they settle, in depth, in the nap of cloth of rugs and in areas of protected beds of products topical ectoparasites. The adult fleas can stay resting in the apprenticeship of cocoon of weeks to months, depending on the environmental conditions.
The control program will trust the application of a parasiticide product in the animal, and one in the atmosphere.
In the animals it is preferable to use a product in spray or spot-on. It is important to avoid that the fleas reach the skin to prick and such products tend to have fast beginning and long duration.
For environmental control it is important the complete aspiration of the atmosphere with vacuum cleaner before the administration of an environmental spray. The product should contain a growth inhibitor or development of insects with an adultcide of fleas.
